More than 1,000 customers encountered trouble with Citi’s mobile app and website Friday morning, according to reports on social media.

Problem reports at outage monitoring platform Downdetector spiked at more than 1,340 around 9:50 a.m., then fell to 213 a half-hour later. About half the complaints were related to online login, with 40% of users complaning about the mobile app login and more than 10% reporting online banking login issues, the site indicated.

“We are aware of a technical issue that is impacting a limited number of customers, and we are working on a resolution now,” a Citi representative said in an email sent to ThinkAdvisor shortly before noon.

Downdetector users indicated they’d received access-blocked messages when trying to log in.

On X, formerly Twitter, users indicated the Citi app was down and its website not working properly.

“@Citi Fix yo website,” one posted.

@AskCiti  what is going on with your app? It said I had to update, now it just says technical error every time I try to sign in,” wrote another.

The company’s customer service account responded: “Our site is experiencing a technical issue, and we are working to resolve it. We’ll let you know when the issue is resolved. We appreciate your patience.”
