What You Need to Know

  • Consumer complaints about Chase accounts persisted Tuesday.
  • One social media user said Monday they had to return groceries to the shelves after their card was declined.

Chase banking customers encountered troubles with accounts for a second straight day Tuesday, including delays in transaction processing, social media posts indicated.

While trouble reports on Downdetector dipped to double digits overnight after rising for several hours Monday, surpassing 840 at one point, some consumers indicated they continued to experience problems Tuesday.

Downdetector, which gathers data on outages at banks, websites and communications companies, indicated it had received 365 problem reports from Chase customers by 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, with a large majority reflecting issues with account balances and transactions.

“Like a multi-billion-dollar company can’t handle my PayPal transfer… bro what are they doing with my money,” a Downdetector user posted Tuesday afternoon, adding in a second remark that ”I just transferred over my weekly check from PayPal to my bank account and now it is stalled. So i’m just hoping my money is there so I can buy groceries tonight.”

“Is anyone’s transactions on debit card not updating again like yesterday ?” another user posted. Another responded that she was able to buy things but the transaction history wasn’t updating.

“Am able to login to Chase, but won’t display statements, year-end summaries, notices and letters,” yet another Downdetector user posted.

At least one Downdetector user reported that his account access issues had been resolved after he contacted customer support on the Signal app.

On Monday, consumers reported problems with account balances and access and with declined debit card transactions.

“Once again… transferred money from Apple Pay to Chase. But it’s not showing in Chase account. This just happened a few weeks back. Been 3 hours now. Totally ANNOYING,” one Downdetector user posted Monday.

“Their whole system is down at the branch as well. My cards are getting declined too,” another Downdetector user posted.

“Just went food shopping and had to put everything back because my card was declining. I checked my balance knowing I had money and my money was still there. My recent transactions haven’t been showing up, I don’t even know if my bills were paid for or not. This is so annoying, please fix this ASAP,” another Downdetector poster reported late Monday.

Some users on X, formerly Twitter, also have reported Chase banking problems this week.

“Yesterday I couldn’t make a deposit at our Brooklyn branch. Today a branch in Manhattan accepted the deposit but told me to hold onto the receipt ‘just in case’ since their system ‘slow’/'unable to verify,” one tweeted Tuesday.

A Chase spokesperson told ThinkAdvisor on Monday: “All Chase credit cards are working as usual, as are the vast majority of Chase debit cards. And we’re working to restore full service to the small portion of affected debit cards.”

The statement didn’t address any website, app or account balance issues.

On Tuesday afternoon, the spokesperson said, “We continue to process transactions in branches, and we’re working to get all transactions posted.”

Chase customers have faced other technical glitches recently. On Sept. 20, consumers made more than a thousand reports indicating problems trying to use the bank’s website, with several reporting receiving a malware warning message when trying to access Chase’s website.

In late August, some investors reported having trouble executing trades on Chase’s app and online platform.

In June, Chase customers complained their accounts had been hit with duplicate transactions, with some reporting drained balances. The bank said it was reversing incorrect transactions and issuing refunds.
